What color should I paint my engine? 64-66
The following information was provided by Jeff Speegle, competition judge for the Mustang Club of America:
1964 170-black block, orange-red valve cover & air cleaner 260-black block, medium blue or orange-red valve covers and same color air cleaner, air cleaner intake snout and heat riser tube black 289-black block, gold air cleaner and valve covers, air cleaner snout and heat riser tube black 1965 200-black block, blue or orange-red valve cover and same color air cleaner 289-black block, gold air cleaner and valve covers, air cleaner snout and heat riser tube black 1966 200-blue block, valve cover, air cleaner (Sprint option---chrome air cleaner) The block, head, oil pan and intake should be painted as a unit. The fan, fan pulley, crankshaft pulley, generator/alternator bracket and air conditioner brackets are black. The engine mount brackets, harmonic balancer, and the power steering brackets and pump can be black or natural metal. Air conditioning brackets on a 1971 or later can be black or natural. Where do I get the right color paint? The following information was obtained from various sources: Ford blue * Ditzler's #13358 PPG DAR #13898 * Krylon Ford Blue Plasticote Ford Blue (#224) * Seymour Ford Blue "natural" * "rust strip or bead blast then paint with high-tem cast iron paint for a natural look"---Scott at National Parts Depot Engine Compartment * Krylon #16132 * Eastwoods under hood paint * DP90 primer, with satin black color coat |
